In many EU countries your VAT number — like the Dutch BTW-nummer or Italian Partita IVA — can often be used to construct your EORI customs number.
But for countries like Germany, or if you are based outside the EU (e.g. China, Turkey, Vietnam, Ukraine), there’s no shortcut — you must apply for an EU-issued EORI.
